FIRST STEP: Lori Renee House
The Lori Renee House was created December 2006 to be a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for young women, ages 14-18, who had been exposed to one or more of the following: abuse (physical, mental or verbal), neglect, abandonment, drug abuse, gang involvement, prostitution, rape, post traumatic stress disorder, and suicidal ideations / cutting. In an effort to develop a healthy mind, body and soul, the girls are engaged in a variety of basic skills training, psychosocial rehab, anger management, peer-to-peer services, academics, yoga / exercise, cognitive activities, mentoring and spiritual / meditation and breathing techniques. These programs have been found to develop resilience by providing opportunities for building self-esteem and self-suffi ciency.
